Chapter Eleven
Landon parked alongside a strip of houses with muted pastel colours where the endless pacific ocean stretched out behind them.
The weather had cleared, and the lowering sun on the horizon had finally made an appearance after the grey clouds thinned. It was truly postcard perfect.
âSo, whoâs all going to be here? I should be prepped with a whoâs who, so I donât screw anything up.â For some odd reason, my insides felt like they were vibrating, and my heart was pounding awfully fast.
âYouâll be fine.â Landon rubbed my thigh.
A ball of tightness firmly nestled into my gut, and I inhaled sharply. âMaybe I should offer the chocolates first to win everyone over.â
âYou wonât need to. Just be yourself, and youâll fit in just fine. No need to worry.â
âJust being myself is the first set of problems,â I whispered under my breath, but I sensed a tiny bit of apprehension rolling off Landon despite his reassuring words.
âYou okay?â Landon gave my hand a squeeze.
I face him, taking in every inch of his face. Tonight was a big deal, yet both of us were seeing it differently.
A quick glance over to the picturesque houses and a fresh set of nerves washed over me. I was going to come face to face with Cedar, which had happened many times before finding out our connection, and once since I found out it was her, but still, tonight was the night I was going to interact with her. Maybe have a conversation too, at least more than let me get your order for you.
âCome on.â
We hopped out of the car and, feeling my breath cool with each step, we walked between two houses.
âThis house.â He pointed to the left house in a weathered pale blue hue. âI used to spend my summers here. After I went to university and lived in Vancouver for a while, Eric took it over and now lives here year-round. This houseââ He tipped his head toward the right.
It was pink and had the appearance of having been recently renovated. Everything about it looked newer, from the deck to the siding, and even the little notched edging along the peak of the roof.
âLily and Mona lived there during the summer. Itâs now a B&B run they run.â
âDo most Cheshire Bay residents return to live here?â
âMost, but not all.â He winked. âI came back, but the ocean is my life. Lilyâs older sister Mona returned, although that wasnât part of her original plan until she met Jesse. Jesseâs ex-wife didnât think much of the area and couldnât wait to leave. Youâll get to meet her.â
âThe ex-wife?â I cocked a brow and shifted on my feet.
He laughed; one of the best sounds to soothe my frazzles. âNo, no. I forget that womanâs name, but she lives on the other side of the island. But youâll meet Mona and Lily, both sisters and great people.â
âI donât know how Iâll remember all of them.â As it was, in my search I didnât remember those names coming up.
